Irwin Toy in possible sale talks
Irwin Toy, according to this article, seems to talking about selling controlling interest to a private party, who at this point has been unnamed.
What does this mean for the fate of DBZ? Good question. If the potential buyer is one of the major toy corporations, as the article would suggest, it could go either way. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Thanks to Jeff Cope for sending this in.

Transformers: Robots in Disguise coverage!
In my efforts to expand, and to perhaps spin off from the DBTI, I’ve uploaded coverage of Hasbro’s new Transformers: Robots in Disguise line. The line brings the toys from Takara’s Car Robots line to American stores, and the storyline of the show is supposed to integrate with the existing American Transformers mythos—watch for it to air this fall on Fox, and watch for the toys this fall as well!
Also, I’ve fixed the Cell link on the DBZ coverage. As there’s so much information yet to go on that page, keep checking back as it is refined and expanded in the next week or two!

What is Dragonball again?
Ah, as usual, there’s not much to report on the Irwin front. If you’ve been to Planet Namek or the FUNImation DBZ site recently, you know that Irwin has plans to release a Time Capsule playset with an exclusive Trunks figure, which is pretty cool. Perhaps they’ll have it on display at Toyfair this weekend. However, in the meantime, here’s some more information for all you Transfans out there, direct from Hasbro:
TRANSFORMERS: There are robots, and then there are ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. The original toy robot that took the world by storm in the ’80s comes full circle with the return of ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. Hasbro is bringing back the “classic” theme for TRANSFORMERS right down to the car-to-robot transformation. Plus, in the fall, Fox Kids will begin airing all-new TRANSFORMERS ROBOTS IN DISGUISE programming six days per week. Approximate retail: $4.99-29.99; Availability: August 2001.
I’m guessing that this means that they are dubbing Car Robots from Japan, and importing the toys for release here, which would be really cool, but not quite as cool as a completely new series. We’ll find out for sure at Toyfair, and you will see it here before you see it anywhere else!
