What's Rurouni Kenshin about? ill try and give a short summary w/ no spoilers

Himura Kenshin the main character wanders Japan in an effort to repent for his past as the heartless killer he was once known as Himura Battosai. He eventually ends up in Tokyo and meets Kamiya Kaoru a swordsman, Kenshin helps her then decides to stay and Tokyo and try and live his life there. The story begins there... As the story goes on Kenshin meets up with a bunch of figures all of whom link to his past, showing us that he cant fully discard his past because it all meets up with him.

Its a great series, full of great fights, great characters, great BGM,good themes and you learn a bit of Japanese History. Most of the characters from Kenshin are either based on actual historical figure or are historical figures themselves.

The only thing that sucks about the series is the anime after the Shisho arc, thats when it goes down.

Hope this helps

Kenshin rules! dammit people read the manga! Enishi!! the Ishin Generals! Sano's past! and kick *** Yahiko! if Kenshin manga doesnt ocme out here or somehting im gonna have to post a full summary of the manga ending cause you all dont really know the great story you're missing.

I'll only add this: if you haven't gotten a Kenshin DVD, then get one as soon as you can. I don't give a flying paralyzed thumb for what you're planning on buying besides Kenshin: you WILL get the DVDs. I don't care if you buy Samurai X (just be sure to switch the covers to the Kenshin side), just get something. Kenshin is one of the series that to me, defines anime. GET IT NOW OR PH33R MY WRATH!

heh, sorry about that, I get caught up in evangelion sometimes. I finally got the death CD in the mail today after 6 months of searching for a decent price, and all I can say is that it is awesome. 14 tracks of original symphonic and cl***ical pieces. So, if you like orchestral music, get this cd. My only complaint is that they didn't include the full versions of Bach's Cello sonata #1, and Violin Partita #3, only 30 second samplings.

Super_Vegeta, if this post were really annoying and useless, do you think people would have written 500 plus messages in here? And besides, posting anime topics outside of the ANIME string is not going to slove any space problems. People are going to post the same amount of posts with the only difference being that the topics will be more spread out instead of nicely packaged the way it is right now.

Bah, stifle it kid.

Anyway, the reason the 8th MS Team ran for three years, is that the director died around half way through production. Thus, production was ceased for awhile.

Now for those of you with manners and knowledge, I would still like to know some more about Lupin III. Arigato.

Anyway, about Lupin III. Lupin the III is the grandson of Arsene Lupin. Arsene Lupin is a character created in the early 1900's by french writer Maurice LeBlanc. As for the Lupin III cartoon itself, I believe there are 8 movies and 3 televison series. Miyazaki only worked on the first two television series as well as Cagliostro. Right now, I think only Cagliostro is the only Lupin anime still available unless you can find Mystery of Mamo or fansubs.

I bought Princess Mononoke a few months back and have been interested in seeing some more of Miyazaki's films. A friend recommended My Neigbor Totoro. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this or his other films I should see.

DeadVenusBlue, I've seen both My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. Both films are incredible. Don't be put off by the fact that they're categorized as kiddie fare; in fact, both movies have a level of quality equivalent of that of most Disney films (and best of all, there's no singing in either film).

I found My Neighbor Totoro to be quite imaginative. *spoiler warning* In one scene, where Mei and Satsuki help Totoro plant a seed, he raises his arms to make the plant grow larger and taller. Mei and Satsuki soon do the same thing, and the same things happen to all of the other plants in the garden. Needless to say, this description doesn't do the actual scene any justice, so see it for yourself, and you'll see what I'm talking about. *end spoiler warning* Overall, the film is like a mixture of Dr. Suess, Disney, and Japanese folklure all put together.

I found Kiki's Delivery Service to be slightly better than Totoro in terms of story (but as for everything else, they're dead even). The basic synopsis of the story is that Kiki, a witch in training, moves into the city in order to become a full-fledged witch. The movie contains a varitable A-List of voice actors (some of which are Kristin Dunst, the late Phil Hartman, Janeene Garofalo [I can't spell her name correctly], and Sherry Lynn [of Tenchi Muyo fame]), as well as a top-notch storyline, in which Kiki must prove herself by being true to herself (as well as one of the best anime climaxes I've ever seen).

Since both movies are classified as kids' films, they can be found for cheap just about anywhere you look. I recommend getting both, but if you're a real Hayao Miyazaki fan, you may also want to get Panda Go Panda! (which I have yet to see, but have heard that it was worthly of beign a yet another Miyazaki classic).

For Miyazaki films, I stongly suggest Castle of Caglistrio. Even if you know nothing about Lupin III, you still should find the movie enjoyable. I know I did.

Super Vegeta, appology accepted, and no hard feelings.

I just bought collection 0:3 and 0:4.

And wasn't Kiki's Delivery Service on the Disney channel once? I remember seeing it. That was a while back though....

It's ok Sanjuro, I'd probably find it out anyway! just EVERYONE ON ANIME, REMEMBER! I HAVEN'T SEEN THE WHOLE SHOW SO DON'T GIVE AWAY ANYTHING PAST COLLECTION 0:2! LAST EPISODE IS ASUKA STRIKES! Cant wait to see her in the school! Shinji and the 2 other guys will totally suffer!

Also one thing I'd like to point out about the Evangelion DVD's: the first two come with 4 and the rest with 3, right? WELLL IN JAPAN THEY ONLY COME WITH 4! IT MAKES ME SOOO MAD THAT ADV HAD TO JIP US LIKE THAT! NOT TO MENTION THEY ALL COST THE SAME!

If anyone is desperately searching for cheap Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD's then look no further than http://www.buy.com./ Note: when you look up the search results it only shows the first 3 DVD's. If you click on the 3rd one at the bottom it says something like "we reccomend these" and shows the rest! To get 8 (the new one) click on 4 or anything higher and it will show it!

Also Ryoga Hibiki I want one of those anime soundtracks! The one you offered on page 2.
And Sanjuro i wasn't tired, it juust happened to be the longest post I have ever made. And no offense to krillin but I have never actually read all of his posts because I always get bored half of the way there!

Whew! That is the LONGEST post i have EVER made on this board!

You were tired out by that post arods? that's pretty sad. Have you ever checked out kullilin's posts? They are about 4 times longer then the one you posted, and I bet he doesn't even break a sweat.

*****EVA SPOILER AHEAD CAUTION*******

Anyway, I don't see why people keep saying the ending to the eva tv series is so confusing. ******SPOILER ALERT****** The last two episodes take place mainly in Shinji's mind, as well as evryone elses, since everybody's spirit is melded together through the third impact. This is why the episodes are so abstract visually, as the viewers themselves are literally being melded in with Shinji's, and the whole casts, minds in a LCD sea. Through this melding of minds and the destruction of AT fields, we are able to see the torment and frustration Shinji personally experiences in his mind. While in Shinji's mind, the characters help Shinji to reevaluate his self worth and his reason for existence. In the end, Shinji realizes that he is worth something, and should just live life as it is. He realizes he should not dwell on the pain he has experienced, but try to move forward. This is why at the very end, everybody claps and congratualtes Shinji. ******END SPOILER*****

Anyway, about the Eva Dvds, they suck. The guys at ADV are a bunch of bastards. It's such a shame that they have the rights to all of the good anime though. The only series they handled fairly well is Nadia, which when they first released on VHS came with 4 episodes on each tape!

Regarding Lupin III, I have a video called Lupin III's Greatest Capers. It contains a hilarious episode called Albatross and then what I think is the series finale, in which an evil Lupin twin/person in Lupin costume is terroriaing stuff.

That Bebop ep, Mushroom Samba, God was that dead funny. Any show that has a fat, dreadlocked, black guy who deals magic mushrooms being chased by somebody claiming to be a Shaft brother with a grenade shotgun fighting on a train being chased by a busty balck woman with a fro being chased by a "psychopathic child hacker genius on crack and many other things I'm sure" with a Welsh Corgi strapped to her back on a jet scooter, well, you just can't buy entertainment like that. What does this have to do with any above posts? Very little, if anything. But I felt it should be mentioned.

Well, arods, in Japan and most oriental countries, the family names(last names) come before the first names. For example, Shinji's name in Japan is Ikari Shinji, not Shinji Ikari. So this is why when a character introduces themselves in the Japanese dub, they usually say something like, "hello, my name is Ayanami Rei" instead of "hello, my name is Rei Ayanami." When tranlated to english, companies tend to westernize the japanese names so the first names come first, that way, english speaking people don't get confused.

On another note, this is ANIME's 666th post. Creepy stuff.

Would you guys want me to close this thread and break it up into specific threads, now that its in its own topic or leave it as it and allow other threads to break off on their own? For organization purposes, I think we should chop 'er up... but for historical purposes... I'm not so sure.

I think this post should stay the way it is. Splitting it up into little sections would make some of the posts sound incoherent. Also, some of the sections will become deleted after a while when nobody posts in them during the periodical post deletes to conserve space. Keeping the post this way will be good for organization, easy access as well as for sentimental/historical reasons. This is the ultimate post after all, it's the post that will be forever admired by all posts' to come.

Anywyay, if you haven't seen the two eva movies Toji, I reccommend you do. ********SPOIILER ALERT******** They explain how the third impact happens and how Ritsuko and Misato actually "die." I don't want to spoil the story for you, but I will tell you that the third impact involves Lillith and something REALLY big happens to the whole planet. *******END SPOILER******

We'll leave the thread as it is, and I will leave it for as long as the board exists (I promise), but I think we're gonna close it up soon. Pack your bags, folks--you've moved to a new home.

Well, this is a surprize. I come to the board after a day of sparring and find that the thread I started now basicly has it's own section. I'm quite honored, truth be told. It's a wierd feeling to have somthing I started, but am by no means sole contributer to, be called a piece of history. Wow. Um, thanks to everyone for posting here and making this thread what it is.

In anime related news:...um...ah...crap. I got nothing. Go visit animenation.com 's Ask John section. You'll learn quite a few things.

BTW, does anyone watch Berserk here? Just curious.
