Well, I ran out of
things to say a while back, so I'll just comment on this
post. I'll keep it short and sweet. It's really amazing
to see something like this. Alot of thought has gone
into this post, and it is riddled with information on
various anime series and movies. Kulilin even graced us
with several of his extremely long, information filled
replies. We've talked about everything from Go Nagi's
series to Trigun, I even had the chance to post one of
my UC vs. AC rants.(Although it never got a reply from
that Xajaii kid...) Anyway, this post really is amazing.
I've enjoyed taking part in it, and reading the replies
from everyone here. Congradulations people, and I thank
you for making it Ryoga. Anyway, before I get carried
away, I'll shut up.

Yup, I 've seen the
first 5 episodes of Beserk. I posted a review a few
pages back but I guess nobody saw it. Anyway, to reprise
my thoughts about it, it has got to be one of the most
creepiest series out there. There is tons of blood and
the main character, Gutts is one of those borderline
villain types. Very very dark series. There's also a bit
of near yaoi situations involving Gutts and Griffith
having a bath fight. Ugghhh. Still a cool series though,
I highly reccomend it.
Another series I reccomend is FLCL. It's made by the
same company who made Nadia, KareKano, and Eva, so you
know it's one of those "crazy" types of anime. After
watching the first three OVA episodes, I'm still not
100% sure exactly what the story is. It's that crazy.
Anyway, from what I could piece together, the story is
about a 12 year old japanese kid whose older brother
goes off to america to play baseball. His brother leaves
behind a 17 girlfriend who constantly hits on the 12
year old brother as kind of a replacement for the older
brother. Through some wierd circumsances, this kid gets
an alien maid working for him, and somehow has robots
sprouting out of his head. Wierd, wierd stiff. What'll
those crazy guys at Gainax think of next?
Anyway, I'm going on one of those spiritual
enlightenment type of deals for two weeks. That means I
have to completely give up TV, the internet, anime,
figures, and basically anything material. I even have to
go outside, and get this, exercise. Hopefully
I don't loose the little sanity I have left.
See yah around "otakus"

In response to
Cland97's question, I don't know the name of the song
Spike whistles (probably no one does, I've never seen it
mentioned anywhere). However, I do know that song from
Mushroom Samba. The song is called "Chicken Bone." It's
a funny little song, but it makes absolutely no sense.
Like these lyrics for instance:
"I like, you like, she likes, he likes chicken
bone Everyone loves like a crazy chicken bone My
dog, my cat, my mouse want chicken bone I left my
head over the chicken bone"
As for the future of this post, I was going to
suggest that it be closed, but I see Despotes has
already made that decision. Now that we have a whole
board dedicated to the topic of anime, one gargantuan
post seems kind of antiquated. Closing it is for the
best I think, but at least it will still be here for
those who care.

Kenshin is 90+ eps.
The DVDs are up to ep. 31. Bebop is six DVDs, 26 eps.
Sanjuro, that's really neat about the spiritual
enlightenment training you're doing. I've been doing
quite a bit of training myself, though mostly
concentraitng on the physical, and not the spiritual. I
should start meditiaing again.
Char (I'm still going to call you that, since claiing
you Admiral sounds...well, it sounds a tad yaoi. Or
something.) thanks for the words of praise. Means a lot.
Atticus, I see your point, but this is the original,
the one that the new General Anime board is based on.
It's be like deleting DBZ because GT came by.
Despotes, thanks for keeping this thread open. I am
very grateful, and so is everyone else it seems.

Cowboy Bebop is
better than "good." It's absolutely stunning. It's the
best animated series I've seen to date.
Cowboy Bebop mixes and matches all kinds of genres,
styles and elements of pop culture, and comes out with
an original and thoroughly engrossing show. I don't
think it fits into any one genre particularly, but
whatever it attempts to be, it does so well. Whether the
series goes for drama, humor, action, suspense, or
anything, it pulls all of these off beautifully. Cowboy
Bebop is touching, funny, thought-provoking, exciting.
It's wonderful.
The series is set in the year 2071. Mankind has
spread throughout the solar system, living in large
cities on planets and moons. The story follows a group
of bounty hunters as they attempt to chase down
criminals. However, there's a lot more to the story than
that.
The main cast includes Spike Spiegel, the
protagonist, the epitome of cool, and my favorite
character in the entire world of anime. He seeks danger
wherever he can find it and has a mysterious past that
he has yet to come to terms with. His partner is Jet
Black, a former cop, who, as we'll see, has some issues
in his own past. They're joined by a colorful cast of
characters later in the series: Faye Valentine, a woman
with a huge debt and a murky past, hacker extraordinaire
Ed, and the lovable Ein.
The story is fairly episodic, a fact that some people
criticize, but there is a larger story as the characters
come to terms with their pasts. Even though some of the
episodes don't deal directly with the larger stories,
every episode reveals some insight into the characters.
The stories are great (there wasn’t a single episode
in the entire series that I disliked), the animation is
top-notch, the voice cast (Japanese and English) does a
fine job, and the music is absolutely fantastic.
That's a brief rundown of the series, spoiler-free I
hope. Don't wait around; get the first DVD right away!
You won’t be sorry.

This thread rules, I
could just like live here and not go to other parts of
the board now, maybe ill do that.
Covering various things...
FLCL is an amazing bunch of OVA's any anime fan has
to see them! Sadly I never got to finish it cause it got
picked up commercially before I could get the rest as
fansubs. Haruko rules! I'm gonna have to but that
Kaiyodo Haruko figure cause she looks pretty nice.
Thanks very much Atticus! for answering my question,
now im off to find that song.
Anyone have any idea the title of the Bebop vocal
bebop song that plays near the end of episode #24? God I
love that episode, but it made me cry...

Ah, Cowboy Bebop. As
I type this I'm listening ot my custom Bebop CD "See You
Space Cowvoy". I'll come back to that later though.
Bebop is one of the top series today. It just rules
hardcore. Spike is the man; he practices Bruce Lee's
style of martial arts, he has groovy hair, he's a sharp
dresser, and he smokes, which is only cool in fiction;
Jet is pretty cool; the behind the scenes guy, who can
hold his own; Faye annoys me quite a bit, but makes up
for it with her extremely nice rack (It's funny cause
it's true); Ed cracks me up to no end, we should all ty
to be a bit more Ed-like. Ein's a dog. Can't say much
bout him, other than than he's cute. Vicious is the best
foe from the past since Sabertooth. Gren was cool, so
was Rico. I want to punch Asamov for being a stupid head
and being mean to that very easy on the eyes chick he
hung with.
If you see one ep of Bebop, see ep. 5 "The Ballad of
Fallen Angels". The shoot out reminds me of the lobby
scene in the Matrix (the creators did say they drew some
stuff from anime...hmm, makes you wonder).
Anywho, in closing, I'll give a track listing for
"See You Space Cowboy". 1. Tank! 2. The Real Folk
Blues 3. Piano Black 4. Want It All Back 5.
The Egg and You 6. American Money 7. Go Go Cactus
Man 8. Waltz for Zizi 9. Spy 10. Space
Lion 11. Rush 12. Cat Blues 13. Green
Bird 14. Memory 15. Rain 16. See You Space
Cowboy

Cland97, the song
from Session 24 is titled "Call Me Call Me." That song
and "Chicken Bone" can be found on the "Blue"
soundtrack.
Session 24 was a great episode, but I also liked the
one before it, "Brain Scratch". You might think Session
23 would be overlooked, what with the important stuff in
the last three episodes, but I thought "Brain Scratch"
was really moving.
That last speech by the criminal, with the sad, soft
music playing in the background was just great (don't
know the name to that song either). Then there's Ed's
last line in that episode, which I though was very
touching. You wonder sometimes if Ed has a complete
grasp on reality, what with the weird behavior, but that
last line was such a great moment of clarity. The 6th
DVD was great from beginning to end.

Just so people know,
you can get all of the DVDs I mentioned in a previous
post at this web site: http://www.animecornerstore.com/
They sell DVD sets in bundles, which I find, is an
excellent deal.
I heard at one point that either Manga Entertainment
or Urban Vision had the rights to Bezerk. Alas, they
don't have the DVD rights, so we may never see Berzerk
in the states (on DVD at least).
So, does anyone have any questions about Bubblegum
Crisis? Anyone? *cue dead silence followed by lone gust
of wind*
Random news note: Brace yourselves. July's gonna be a
big month. This month marks the release of the Tenchi
Muyo artbook (in english), the Bandai anime action
figures, and the Akira DVD. Also, Hobby Link Japan
(http://www.hlj.com/) is currently not only selling the
Cowboy Bebop Spike Spiegel figure, but the Dead or Alive
2 action figures (a word of caution: the DOA2 figures
cost around $20 each, so it might be a good idea to wait
until they're released in the states this September).

mentioned by anyone else):
Tenchi Universe (vol. 1-8) Tenchi Muyo In
Love Dual! (vol. 1-4) Martian Successor Nadesico
(vol. 1-5; 6 will be out on August 28th) Battle
Athletes (OVA series; vol. 1-3) Princess
Mononoke Akira (available July 24th, if you can find

As I sit here at my
desk, drumming the Trigun song "Fool's Paradise" with my
fingers, I get to wondering: does Sailor Moon wear any
panties? Accually, I'm wondering if there's any way I
can restore my faith in DBZ. When I first got into DBZ
two years ago, it was all new and fantastic. I couldn't
get enough info. In the time of one year, I knew almost
everything there was to know about DBZ. I revelled in my
knowledge and enjoyed watching the dub. Then I stumbled
upon DBZ Uncensored. While my knowledge only gained, the
dub I had once enjoyed was now slightly tarnished in my
eyes. And yet still, I bought dub tapes, "uncut" of
course, and watched the fight with Frieza, Garlic Jr.,
and the first of the Androids. I took a great amount of
pride in my massive dub tape collection. To this day, I
have EVERY DBZ dub tape up to the first Imperfect Cell
tape, minus the two Trunks tapes and first Ginyu tape
that I got on DVD and gave the tapes to my friend. So
for the time being, I was satisifed. Until I realized
that nothing surprised me because I knew everything
already. The knowledge I had so loved and cherished was
my downfall. Then, Gundam Wing came on, and for the
first time ever, I had other anime besides DBZ on my
anime bookcase. And thus began the removal of DBZ from
it's pallace in my heart, to a pre owned apartment in a
neighborhood just above a slum in my heart. And now,
like Dante Hicks at the utterance of Silent Bob's words
in Clerks, I have a moment of perfect clarity to my
problem: I still love DBZ. I always have and always
will, dub, sub, or original. I have always planned to
own the entire series of DB-GT. Now, with the DVDs, I
will be able to own the series in Japanese. Many have
called it insane and stupid for wanting to own the
entire series on any format. But, I will, someday. It
may take a lifetime, but I will. Because DBZ brought me
to the dance, so to speak, and it's about time I started
showing it some respect.

Thanks everyone.
Bought my Sanyo DVD player last night. Got the movie
Starship Troopers to go along with it (it was the most
interesting thing Wal-Mart had). Today I went to the
mall and bought Dead Zone (the best DBZ movie released
yet), Androids Invasion (Vegeta's SS scene) and Trigun
$$60 Billion Man. I'm probably going to end up
buying all of Trigun. I haven't laughed at an anime this
hard since I popped in my first Ranma tape. The art is
great, the characters great, everything great.
Absolutely loved it. My theory: Vash isn't really Vash,
but in fact, the little black cat is really Vash. 0_o
Dead Zone is great, it's probably the best-dubbed hunk
of Dragonball avaliable in the states. The features were
cute, I especially liked the "Namek-language version".
On the other hand, FUNi's Androids DVD could have used
quite a few more options. The subtitles were AMAZING,
though. It was like watching the world's best
fansub--Kuririn-san, Son Goku, and Yamucha, and the fact
that Artificial Humans don't have ki, as opposed to
Krillin, Goku, and Yamcha realizing that they can't
sense the Androids' power levels. What's everybody's
favorite Dragonball DVD? Which one should I buy next?

0083 was okay at
best.(By Universal Century standards that is.) Sure, the
GP-02 is extremely cool, and Monsha still makes me laugh
out loud, but there's just something about it that
doesn't settle with me. I still enjoyed most of it
though. Anyway, I suggest picking up the MSG
Trilogy(only on VHS at the moment), and The 8th MS
Team(VHS and DVD). Try 0080 as well. Sure, 0080 is
extremely short, and isn't exactly "action packed," but
the story is great, and when the action starts, it
really kicks.(The Gunfight in Episode Four was awesome.)
If you can get fansubs I suggest Zeta Gundam. You can
skip ZZ, just read up on it.(I really dislike ZZ) From
there, you can pick up CCA.

Hey guys, this is a
monster post that has given me a lot to think about but
I've never posted. One suggestion that I think would be
more productive is to begin a separate post about each
different anime discussed. Specific movies/series are
hidden amongst this thread and newbies probably see that
this post is 18 pages long and don't even bother to read
the history. You've actually started a small club of
your own in a way.
Moderators what do you think? Anyone else have an
opinion? I'm not trying to be hostile, just trying to
make this post more accessible to everyone else.

-Soda-, I have to at
least give you points for being curtious. However, I
really don't think that this thread should be
abanodoned. It IS like a club, and just because some
newbies are too lazy to read some of the thread, dosen't
mean we should shut down. As an avid reader myself, it
would just go against my grain to stop posting here
because of some lazy illiterate newbies (not you -soda-,
but you know who 'm talking about). If someone wants to
know about a series, they can post their own thread or
come here. Heck, with few exceptions, we'd love to have
them. You see, I started this thread to be an open forum
for anime, for those WILLING to learn to come and ask
their peers and glean knowledge from them. My goal will
never be complete, because there's always somebody who
want to learn, and will read this thread over to learn.
I made this thread for the lovers of anime who wished to
kick back, and let fly with their knowledge, bettering
the cause of anime. The day this thread shuts down, is
the day I leave this board for good.

There's really no
need to go back and read this entire thread. I just
started posting here a couple of days ago, and I feel
very welcome. I haven't read anything past the current
page. If I have a question, I'll ask it. I'm pretty sure
noone will eat me alive if it's been discussed before.

Why thank you,
Ryoga...I just didn't feel right posting here until I
bought my DVD player...
Anyway, a question I asked earlier: What's everyone's
favorite Dragonball Z DVD? Like, if I was only going to
buy 2 or 3, which should I buy? I already have Androids
Invasion and Dead Zone. I loved hearing Chi Chi say,
"What the HELL do you want?!"

a weird question, but did anyone ever considered some
video games do have some in their own style have
animes? ex: Final fantasy
1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/91/10/11/12/tatics Chrono
trigger,Chrono cross, star ocean,lunar star1/3 and
may many more.

Soda, if you or
anyone else wants to join in, do so. We'll be happy to
get some more people posting here. Take Rosy for
instance, everyone so far has welcomed Rosy. If you ask
a question that has already been ask, we'll answer it
again. Besides, I need to flaunt my knowledge a bit
more.
I don't want to see this thread closed
down, nor divided into smaller threads. This thread is a
major part of the history of this board. I come here
sometimes, just for the sole purpose of reading thins
thread. I don't want to see it go.

Hmm...good DBZ
DVDs...in truth, I only have three, but I can at least
suggest two of them: the Trunks DVDs. C'mon, they have
so much neat swag: Frieza getting cut in half (and
thirds, and tenths, and fifteenths, etc.); Bulma and
Vegeta bantering; Trunks (if he wasn't so boy bandish
I'd like him more); King Kold getting a royal (heh, get
it, he's a king...ok, I'll shut up) beat down before
being macked brutally; Bulma having abandonment issues
(c'mon, before Namek she stayed as far away from battle
as possible. Then they left her alone for about what, a
month [hard to tell with those 3 hrs] equaling days time
zone they have). When they get back, suddenly, she just
HAS to see Frieza, and refuses to be left behind [you
would too, admit it]); and of course, Vegeta in a pink
shirt (gawd I love that line from the dub:
Vegeta (noticing Trunks staring at him): What!?
You've never seen a guy in a pink shirt
before!? Trunks: Uh no...I like your
shirt... Vegeta: You would.)
Oh, BTW, the Z Warriors Prepare DVD will have the eps
of the second Trunks DVD on them, as well as the eps
that appeared on the tape.

Yeah I'm definitely
getting the Z Warriors Prepare DVD. If just for the
sheer # of episodes on it. Plus they're good eps, too,
with Goku and Piccolo's driving lesson thrown on for
good measure. *chuckles* I love that episode. And since
I'm getting that, I'll probably get the first Trunks
disc too, just like I'm sure I'll eventually buy the
next Androids one, just to see Vegeta yell "BIG BANG
ATTAAAAAACK!"
To anyone that has the VHS Z Warriors Prepare: The
World of DBZ feature that's on this tape...is it the
same as the feature on my Androids DVD? Cause this
little film bugs me. It's long and annoying...

I'm pretty sure it is
the same feature. And I also agree that it sucks.

Heheh, yeah.
Anyways, Ryoga, thanks again for the warm welcome
I've recieved here. I already feel like "part of the
club". I've even gone back and read most of the
preceding 17 pages. And thanks for not leaving. I'm only
just getting to know everyone here, and I'd hate to grow
up in this thread, and the board that spawned from it,
without knowing the person that started it all.
In other news, this is Rosy's 700th post. Cheers!

Well, I for one am
very happy to see thet Ryouga is staying. I really would
have been quite sad if he had left, I dont care if he
would leave forever or just for a bit either way I would
have been a bit sad. I told a few of you what I might
have done had he left, was a serious? maybe...
Ryouga the man of a few names, but he's still the
same great he's always been.
Ryouga Hibiki/Legato Bluesummers/Pilaf-sama13...one

To keep this anime related eveyrone go read One
piece! its the best manga to come out since DragonBall.

And that's the end of it. What you see above is the last backup of the thread before it was accidenly deleted. This thread, for the most part, is what you get when a message board works the way it is supposed to--it becomes a community in and of itself.
Spike opened it, I'm glad that his is the last post. It's fitting.
